- Mayor's Comments

Sunday the 1st of June
The Mayoress and I opened the Andover West Scout Groups fete on Sunday 1st June. This was a privilege since I am president of the Andover Scouts. We met many people we know and as a result of the day, the Mayoress and I have promised to promote the Scouts fund-raising efforts towards building a new Scout hut.
At a later point on Sunday, the Mayoress and I attended an annual Cymanfa Ganu Welsh service in Romsey and learned to sing a few hymns in Welsh.
Monday the 2nd of June The Mayoress and I were invited to a service at St Pauls Church Centre Andover in the evening 2nd June. The service was held to license the Church and new Community Development Worker. We met the Bishop of Winchester and felt very blessed to be part of the proceedings.
Wednesday the 4th of June
On the Wednesday the 4th of June I presented awards to members of the Police, Army and a civilian, for service above and beyond the call of duty. The people awarded are real saints in the community, they achieved acts of heroism and were involved in community action above and beyond the role of duty. I am incredibly proud to report that some of the awards went to joint action teams from the Army and Police, involved in apprehending violent offenders.
Saturday the 7th of June The Mayoress and I had the opportunity to attend the 80th birthday celebrations of Laurie Broadhurst at Westfield Court. Laurie has survived 3 significant heart attacks and has recently raised over £1000 for the British Heart Foundation from our annual sponsored swim.
Laurie is a positive, engaging and progressive individual who was a pleasure to meet with.
Sunday the 8th of June
The Mayoress and I attended the annual Hampshire County Council Service held at Winchester Cathedral; we were accompanied by Mary Fagan, the Lord Lieutenant for Hampshire and Mayors from other areas of the country. The occasion was a wonderful experience.
A note to my readers:
I hope, given the Mayoral duties, to be able to bring you a report, from time to time, about what it is like to be Mayor and a taste of attending the functions that Dorothy, the Mayoress and I attend on your behalf.
